For a long time, the only options you had when you wanted to replace missing teeth were dental bridges and dentures. There is certainly nothing wrong with either of those restorations, but they are only surface solutions that have various drawbacks to them. Thanks to dental implants, for the first time you can achieve a solution that replaces not only the tooth, but the root. Filling up that empty space is just one aspect. When the process is completed by our Canton dental implants office, you will end up with a new tooth replacement that looks, feels, and even functions like a natural tooth does. In fact, dental implants have some advantages over your natural teeth. They will never be subject to tooth decay or toothaches, and they won't have to undergo root canal therapy or an extraction.
A cylindrical titanium post is placed in your jaw. For some patients, healing is very quick and the tooth portion can be placed right away. For others, there is a longer waiting period. Typically, your jaw bone will grow around the post for several months, during which a strong and durable bond will be formed. At that stage, our oral surgeon will attach a small healing color. Finally, a tooth-colored crown is placed on top to replace the tooth itself. It will be cemented for a permanent fit. And that's all there is to it. In most instances, six to eight months are required from start to finish. You should experience little or no disruption to your daily routine during that time.
A bridge requires that the tooth on either side of it be drilled down and a crown placed on top in order to hold the bridge securely in place. With a dental implant, your other teeth remain unaffected. And partial dentures are held in with dental adhesive. Unfortunately, this can be quite messy and not always 100% reliable. Dentures can slide around on you, affecting your confidence when eating or even talking. Needless to say, a dental implant uses no adhesives. And you can rest assured that it is every bit as sturdy as your natural teeth. Chew, speak, and laugh without ever having to worry. To make sure that it's the right choice for you, call us today and schedule an exam and consultation at our Canton dental implants office.
