For a long time, the only options you had when you wanted to replace missing teeth were dental bridges and dentures. There is certainly nothing wrong with either of those restorations, but they are only surface solutions that have various drawbacks to them. Finally, a tooth-colored crown is placed on top to replace the tooth itself. It will be cemented for a permanent fit. And that's all there is to it. In most instances, six to eight months are required from start to finish. You should experience little or no disruption to your daily routine during that time.
A bridge requires that the tooth on either side of it be drilled down and a crown placed on top in order to hold the bridge securely in place. With a dental implant, your other teeth remain unaffected. And partial dentures are held in with dental adhesive. Unfortunately, this can be quite messy and not always 100% reliable. Dentures can slide around on you, affecting your confidence when eating or even talking. Needless to say, a dental implant uses no adhesives.
